She’s been on the house arrest in her native Burma for the vast part of 20 years. Her crime is that if she were free to participate in elections she would win. This week the brutal force that has her incarcerated will decide in a mock trial, if she would spend next 5 years in prison.

Her name is Aung San Suu Kyi. She was born 64 years ago on June 19, 1945. Her father and son steered Burma to independence. He was assassinated. She was 2 years old.

Her name is Aung San Suu Kyi. When the people spoke, the army tried to silence them. They imprisoned the protesters, and killed them in thousands. The people of Burma endured brutality, and they stood firm.

Her name is Aung San Suu Kyi. In 1989 she was arrested and detained. In 1990, the people of Burma won the right to hold elections. Her party won a landslide. 82% of the seats in the parliament. The regime responded swiftly. They ignore the law and wishes of the people. And they continued to silence her.

子どもの頃、政治犯、思想犯、という言葉を初めて知ったのが、スーチーさんのニュースでした。
政府と考え方が違うというだけで犯罪者扱いされてしまうなんて、なんて恐ろしいんだろう…と、子供心に理不尽さを感じたのを覚えています。
あれから何年も経つのに、まだ彼女は自由になれないんですよね。
一刻でも早い解放を祈るばかりです。
日本に居ると偏った報道が目に付きます。
スーチーさんはアメリカから資金を受けて民主化運動をしていると言われていて、ビルマではアメリカの大国主義は歓迎されてないようで、デモ活動や民主化運動をしている人たちは、金で雇われていると言う話を聞きました。
また軟禁状態と報道されていますが、スーチーさん本人が政府に保護を求め、警護してもらっている。
大概のコメントは軍事政権を非難していますが、軍事政権＝悪 民主化運動＝正義と言う方程式は正しいのでしょうか。
独裁国家でも、いい国はあるとおもいます、民主化して前より悪くなった国がある？
本当に正しい真実を知るのは難しいのですが、報道は時と場所によって都合よく変わる事が有り、よく見極めてほしいです。
